Anne Kirkbride signs new Corrie contract
Veteran Coronation Street actress Anne Kirkbride has signed a new contract with the ITV soap, making her the highest paid member of the cast.

The 52-year-old actress, who has played Deirdre Barlow since 1972, has secured her place in Weatherfield for a further 14 months in a £270,000 deal - a longer period than the standard six-month or year-long agreement.

An insider told The Sun: "Deirdre is a Street stalwart, we can’t afford for her to go anywhere. We’re delighted she’s staying put."

A Corrie spokesperson added: "We would never comment on stars’ pay or contracts."

Anne's £270k coup takes her to the top of the table of highest-paid females in the soap, overtaking Barbara Knox, Kabin owner Rita Sullivan, whose pay stands at £260,000. Bill Roache (Ken Barlow) remains the highest paid male.
