In Pictures: Tracy's vicious attack on Charlie
Published Wednesday, Jan 10 2007, 00:16 GMT | By Kris Green
Dramatic pictures of the murderous end to Coronation Street's Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward) were revealed today.
In what will more than likely be one of the scenes of the year, Corrie's own Romeo finally comes to a sticky end this week when toxic Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) finally plays her end game and whacks Charlie around the head with a silver statue – ironically a mother and child effigy.
Viewers will be glued to their seats on Friday when the bad-boy-builder returns home from his court appearance following the assault on Tracy's brother, Peter (Chris Gascoyne), to find his scheming girlfriend 'in the mood', all set to entertain him with a raunchy lapdance routine.
Charlie's womanising ways get the better of him when he drops his guard and Tracy launches the metal statue at his head.
Kate Ford promises that it’s a fitting end for the Street's resident love rat. "Charlie has had this smug attitude that he can do whatever he wants and it has just driven Tracy insane," she said.
"He lives by the sword and dies by the sword. I don’t think there's a man Tracy’s met who's going to get the better of her. She hates what he's turned her into and wants him to die after he continually cheated on her."
Bill Ward commented: "He doesn’t believe that Tracy would actually go through with murder and thinks himself much smarter.
"Charlie has long suspected that Tracy was concocting something evil, and when she reveals her wicked plans he challenges her to go through with it.
"He doesn’t believe she would actually go through with it for a second, so when Tracy actually goes for him it’s a complete shock. She attacks him with such ferocity that he doesn’t stand a chance."
An insider revealed that the scenes required a stunt co-ordinator to ensure Bill's safety. They added: "We actually made four foam replicas of the original metal ornament and sprayed them silver to ensure that Bill Ward didn't end up in the same way as Charlie!"
Street bosses are filming two endings to Tracy's trail, so the big question is: will Tracy get away with homicide of face a life-sentence?
The unmissable murder episodes air on Friday (Jan 12) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.
Here is that killer moment in all its gory…
