A Coronation Street child actor is battling cancer.

6-year-old Hayden Whitbread played the son of Ashley and Claire Peacock, Freddie.

Whitbread alternated with twin brother Dylan for the role which lasted from 2008 to 2011.

The boy has lost his blond hair after chemotherapy and has a scar on his stomach where doctors operated to remove the growth.

The character of Freddie Peacock was named after Weatherfield legend Fred Elliott.

Hayden is a Manchester City fan and recently met his idol Joe Hart. He wears his football shirt when he goes for treatment as "it makes [him] feel brave like [his] hero [Hart]".
