'Coronation Street' wedding will shock fans, says Alan Halsall

By and Amie Parker-Williams
Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has told Digital Spy that viewers will be "shocked" by the events that unfold at Tyrone Dobbs's upcoming wedding.

Tyrone is currently preparing to tie the knot with his violent partner Kirsty Soames, but is only going ahead with the ceremony to secure parental rights over his baby daughter Ruby.

Watch our chat with Alan Halsall in the video below:

While Coronation Street bosses are keeping tight-lipped over exactly what happens at the church, Tyrone may have a tough time ahead as Kirsty finds out about his affair on the eve of the ceremony.

Halsall told Digital Spy: "Like any Coronation Street wedding, there's always a twist and this one's no different. And this is a huge twist, really, in this story that's been running for the best part of a year now. It's a huge twist that leaves Tyrone with nowhere to go.

"I'm sure the viewers will be shocked. Tyrone certainly doesn't see what's about to happen coming. He's had it all planned in his mind how it's going to work, and of course it never runs to plan! I think it'll be great for the viewers to watch, and it's definitely a climax in the story."

Although the outcome of the ceremony is a closely-guarded secret, it has been confirmed that Kirsty's behaviour takes a new twist afterwards when she formally accuses Tyrone of domestic violence, turning the tables on him.

Kirsty's behaviour may be hitting new lows, but Halsall admitted that he doesn't want to say goodbye to Natalie Gumede - who plays the unstable character - just yet.

He explained: "To come into a show like Coronation Street which has been running for 52 years and make such an impact, I think is testament to her. I've loved working with her day in, day out. She's a joy to work with and she's nothing like Kirsty, you'll be pleased to know!

"I'm not so sure that will just go away. There's still a story to be told there. Things like the issue that we're touching on, they don't just go away."

Coronation Street airs Tyrone and Kirsty's wedding on Monday (January 21) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
