'Coronation Street' John Michie: 'It's good to go down villain route'

By
Coronation Street star John Michie has said that he is pleased with his exit from the soap.

Michie's character Karl Munro will bow out of the show in dramatic fashion next week as he finally gets his comeuppance for starting the Rovers Return fire.

Michie said to the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I said to the new producer, 'Please, I know Karl has to go but I hope it's not strung out for too long'.

"I'd rather have a short, sharp, quick ending. Because sometimes I think stories are strung out and people begin to lose interest.

"It was good to go down the villain route, without being a crazy serial killer. Because let's face it, you don't get many of them in suburban Britain."

It was announced back in July that Michie would be joining the cast of Holby City to play the part of neurosurgeon Guy Self.

Michie said: "It's a complete change - from scally to surgeon. It's quite a leap from Corrie. I've never done medical drama before."

Coronation Street airs Karl's final scenes on Friday, September 13 at 8.30pm.
