Corrie's audience increased to 9.72m (38.7%) at 8.30pm and 350k (1.4%) on +1 as terminally-ill Hayley ended her own life with husband Roy by her side.
EastEnders, meanwhile, appealed to 7.66m (31.2%) at 8pm on BBC One as Jake and Lauren's affair was exposed. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 399k (2.6%) at 10.30pm.
Emmerdale entertained 7.46m (34.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 147k (0.6%) on +1 with more fallout from Rachel's disappearing act.
Hollyoaks had 1.22m (5.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 111k (0.5%) on +1 with the continuing aftermath of the wrecking ball stunt, while E4's first look was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day with 779k (3.6%) at 7pm and 206k (0.8%) on +1.
Over on Channel 5, Neighbours grabbed 766k (10.7%) at 1.45pm and 928k (5.5%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away managed 243k (3.3%) at 1.15pm, 669k (3.4%) at 6pm and 508k (2.4%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.73m (24.3%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
