The actor, who plays villainous David Platt on the ITV1 soap, said he is much more comfortable crying for the cameras than when he first joined the cast in 2000.
He told Star: "I had to cry on set yesterday. I find it really easy these days - it only takes me about a minute to start bawling. It used to take ten minutes, but now it only takes a matter of seconds."
The 20-year-old has been filming scenes featuring his character in prison.
Producers recently denied reports that David will be involved in a gay storyline.
