Michelle Keegan reveals Soap Award shock
Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan has revealed that she was stunned by her British Soap Award win.

The actress walked away with the Best Newcomer prize at the awards ceremony this month for her role as Tina McIntyre on the ITV1 soap.

"I didn't expect it and honestly didn't have anything prepared," Keegan told The People. "If you had felt my heart you would have known how nervous I was. I walked down the stairs and producer Steve Frost said well done. I didn't hear him - I was trying not to fall down the stairs.

"I looked out at all these people I watched as a kid and there I was in really high Jimmy Choo shoes and a £4,000 Versace dress. Six months ago I could only dream of being in Corrie let alone winning a prize."

Michelle also admitted that she is still getting used to the financial benefits of starring on the programme.

"My mum convinced me to buy a £1,000 Chloe handbag and I love it. I used to look at all the bags in Selfridges but could never afford them," she explained. "Otherwise I am really careful with my money."
