Corrie to use incidental music in wedding ep

While sat watching Carla (Alison King) and Tony's (Gray O'Brien) wedding the other night, it was refreshing to see the producers at Coronation Street using incidental music.
There's an extremely effective scene at the end of the hour-long episode featuring Maria (Samia Smith) and the Green Day song 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)'.
I don't think Corrie plan to go all Hollyoaks on us and use music at every touch and turn, but I'm led to believe that they'll be using commercial tracks as-and-when it's apt for the storyline.
There are some fantastic one-liners from the Websters, too!
Carla and Tony's wedding episode airs in a one-hour special on Wednesday, December 3 at 7.30pm.
Check back on Tuesday for our interview with the fabulous Alison King.
Let me know your views on Corrie using incidental music using the usual form below!

What is the song about? the title - "Good Riddance" doesn't suggest that it would be a good wedding song!!! P.S. can't wait for Carla to come back, I need to check her winter wardrobe out, she wears lush clothes.

This sounds really good, I enjoy when Coronation Street uses music.

A very good move. Corrie's moving with the times, and since Kim Crowther, overall production values have sharply risen. Use of music, when effective to a scene, will increase my enjoyment of the programme hugely. I loved the use of Queen's "Somebody to Love" on Christmas Day.

I find it weird that people play "Time of your life" at their weddings, because if you knew what the real meaning of the song meant, they probably wouldn't play it! I'm a Greenday fan, and when I found out what the song really meant I was surprised it was used as a wedding song!! Looking forward to Carla being back on the Street!!!

Incidental music means mute and subtitles. Incidental music means the director thinks the scene is poor and want to tart it up with some music. It's just another excuse to play pop music.

The best incidental music that ever matched the moment was in EastEnders when Mark Fowler was telling Pauline or someone he was HIV positive in the Vic - the jukebox in the background played Monty Pythons - look on the bright side of life - the timing was brilliant
