Corrie's best episodes in recent months

Over the weekend, I managed to catch up with my DVD stash and the pile contained the week of Coronation Street episodes featuring Colin Grimshaw's eventful 70th birthday bash.
The episodes in question, which air from next Monday (April 27), see Colin (Edward de Souza) propose to Rita, before his shocking secret is finally revealed to his family - that he is, in fact, Julie's (Katy Cavanagh) father and that he had relations with her mum Paula (Sharon Duce) when she was just 14.
I wasn't overly excited at the prospect of party week, but I have to say, I was taken aback by the standout performances from the core cast and quality of the bank of the episodes as a whole.
Since the beginning of March, we've had Gary's trial, Becky and Steve's wedding and the fire at the bookies, but none of these had me glued to the screen like next week's drama.
The outstanding performances from Katy Cavanagh (Julie) and Sharon Duce (Paula) mixed with Street legend Barbara Knox (Rita) and the still criminally underused Sue Cleaver (Eileen) make for compelling viewing.

This scene airs on Monday, April 27 at 7.30pm on ITV1.
