'Coronation Street's Becky recreates Manet art

Published Tuesday, Jul 28 2009, 00:26 BST | By Kris Green | 1 comment
Coronation Street's latest icon Katherine Kelly was invited by the Radio Times to recreate Edouard Manet's (1832 to 1883) famous painting 'A Bar at the Folies-Bergere' which currently hangs in The Courtauld Gallery in London. Painted in 1881 to 1882, it was Manet's last great salon picture.

In the piece, the central figure was called Suzon, a barmaid at this fashionable Parisian café-concert. In this fantastic recreation in the latest issue of Radio Times, Katherine Kelly takes on the position of the painting's model.

The Coronation Street feature in the Radio Times contains interviews with Katherine Kelly (Becky Granger), Julie Goodyear (Bet Lynch) and Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth).

The Radio Times containing the Corrie feature is available now and also includes a 2 for 1 voucher entry to The Courtauld Institute, which houses the original Manet painting.
