Poll: Should Curly return for Corrie's 50th?

Published Saturday, Nov 7 2009, 00:02 GMT | By Kris Green | 3 comments
Last week, I asked your opinion on how Peggy Mitchell will bow out of EastEnders when Walford matriarch Barbara Windsor leaves the BBC soap next year.

From the thousands and thousands of votes, two clear favourites emerged in the exit plot stakes. Nearly a third of voters (30.2%) think that Peggy will head off to Portugal to live happily ever after with Grant, while 24.5% believe that she'll be sent down for murdering her husband Archie (Larry Lamb).

Meanwhile, 13.5% of those polled think she'll die a natural death and the same percentage envisage her being driven out of Walford in a black cab. Classic but boring.

The 'she'll be murdered' option took 11.4% of the vote, 5.9% clicked the 'other' button and 1.1% opted for my personal favourite - she'll be kidnapped never to be seen again.

It could happen, though! Jake Mood, anyone?

Swiftly moving onto this week's poll topic - Kevin Kennedy and his ongoing plight to return for Coronation Street's 50th anniversary.

Since April, the 48-year-old Curly Watts actor has been harping on about a potential comeback to the ITV soap to tie in with its 50th anniversary.

One minute he's 'in talks' for a return that's being "discussed at the highest levels" and the next thing we know, the rumours are untrue.

But hold on a minute... I thought you said that...

OK, so these quotes are taken out of context all the time.

I thought we'd heard the last of the rumours for a few months - until Thursday. Yep, Kevin was recently quoted as saying that he's now spoken to them and is hopeful of a comeback. Understandably, however, Corrie says that it's too early to be revealing anniversary plans.

So whether meetings have or haven't taken place, would you like to see Curly returning to Weatherfield with those iconic glasses?

Let me know by casting your vote in the panel below.

Only if Raquel comes back too! That would be fantastic

If they bring back Curly does this mean that his wife Emma and son Ben will also be returning.

Thanks! You have probably worked out what for by now! My answer is simply, no. I never liked the character of Curly. He was bland, boring and very one dimensional. He was on the show so long but never created any lasting impression. The only way a comeback might work is if we discover he hooked up with Sarah Lancashire's character, Raquel, off screen. Getting her back would be a masterstroke but I think the show has moved on so much since they were last regular cast members.
