Forest fire sweeps Corrie cast

It's the news I'm sure a lot of Corrie fans have been waiting for. Producer Kim Crowther has finally made the decision to axe the large forest of dead wood that is the Morton family.
They've not exactly made the impact producers had intended, have they? But here's a tip for the future, Corrie: when you introduce a brand new and shiny, up-for-it family with a heap of potential, give them some form of storyline, rather than letting them fester in the background for months on end until they become as stale as the kebab meat in Jerry's shop. Samantha Seager, who played Jodie Morton, had the right idea when she jumped ship in July.
Meanwhile, Liz's husband Vernon Tomlin has become predictable with his slovenly, idle work ethic, but he's become part of the Rovers as we now know it. It'll be a shame to see him go, because he's definitely become the kind of comic character Weatherfield fans all know and love.
Probably the biggest shock of yesterday's announcement came with the news that Harry and Dan Mason would be leaving, too – despite The Mirror claiming that they'd signed new contracts of up to one year earlier this month. Hopefully the script writers will capitalise on the looming sexual tension between Harry and Liz before he (and Vernon) departs…
So there'll be two leases up for grabs in the coming months – the bookies and the kebab shop – so chances are the casting department will be working over-time to track down some new faces who will be able to make their presence felt in such establishments and in Weatherfield generally. Oh, and let's not forget the new luxury flats that are being built – there's plenty of potential for fresh blood there, too.
So come on Corrie, let's see what you're made of as far as introducing new characters are concerned. With the gaps being left on set and in the green room by the latest batch of axings, the possibilities are endless.
I have to say, though, it's nice to see they're rooting out some dead wood. Let's hope Corrie comes up trumps with a polished series of summer recruits.
Finally, here are a couple of picture from episodes at the beginning of May.
Liam is devastated when he finally discovers the truth about the death of his baby – and he's horrified to learn that his fiancée Maria has kept her trauma secret for so long. Unsurprisingly, he turns to Carla for a shoulder to cry on...

Meanwhile, Tina finally plucks up the courage to visit David in the young offenders' institute and promises to continue visiting.

These scenes are due to air on Monday, May 5 on ITV1 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

The Maria, Liam and Carla love triangle is really annoying. Seeing Carla being a right cow to Maria is horrible. I think they should just let maria be happy for once!

I'm glad that it has been decided to axe the Morton family. They are utterly useless and they spoil the programme.

I used to like Carla, but she's such a cow! The Liam, Carla Maria triangle is getting on my nerves, why couldn't just for once Maria could be happy!

I really hate Carla and can't wait for her to go, why can't they give Maria a bit of happiness at last.
