Corrie's Lloyd: 'I'd love a scally cousin'

Coronation Street star Craig Charles has revealed that he would love his character to be given a screen family.

The 44-year-old Liverpudlian, who has played the role of taxi firm owner Lloyd Mullaney since July 2005, signed a new three-year contract with the Weatherfield soap back in April.

Speaking exclusively to DS, he said of a potential screen family: "I'd love a scally cousin or something like that who's on the run from the police. Him turning up in Weatherfield at Lloyd's flat would be an absolute corker story for me.

"It'd be nice to have a bit of family around Lloyd. But these things are all very much based on establishing the character first. That's how families in soaps have always worked best - establishing them one by one, as opposed to bringing in a load of new characters in at once."

He added: "I wouldn't rule it out for the future because it's be great to see some of his family - a couple of 'fros on the Street wouldn't go amiss!"

This week sees Lloyd embark on a new romance with Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald (Bev Callard) as they see the New Year in together.
