Michelle's new love cast in Corrie

Michelle Connor's new love interest in Coronation Street has finally been cast.

Actor Kenny Doughty, 30, will take on the role of a builder called Jake for an initial six-episode stint.

Little is known about his Weatherfield arrival other than the fact that Michelle (Kym Marsh) takes an immediate shine to him when he literally falls into her life.

He begins filming with Corrie at Granada Studios in Manchester next week, while his first scenes are due to air at the end of October.

Doughty's screen credits include New Tricks, Shameless, Funland and Wire In The Blood.
