Neilson teases over Roy's Corrie dilemma

David Neilson has announced that his Coronation Street character Roy Cropper will be plunged into turmoil following Tony Gordon's forthcoming deathbed confession.

Businessman Tony will soon reveal his involvement in the death of Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier) during a private moment with café owner Roy in hospital.

The shock plot twist comes after Tony suffers a heart attack and experiences a crisis of conscience over his past crime.

Revealing what happens next, Neilson told DS: "Well [Roy] goes home to Hayley. [Tony asked], 'If I tell you something will you treat it as a secret?' and Roy's an honourable man. Eventually he says to Hayley, 'What do you think about deathbed confessions?' and she says, 'Well it depends on the confession', so he does confide in Hayley but she doesn't believe it.

"Everyone knows he didn't actually do it because a car drove into Liam - he didn't actually kill him. He ordered the killing but he didn't actually kill him. Hayley thinks he was just feeling guilty because he was on his stag night and on drugs so [he] probably misheard it.

"Roy goes through a period where he's just confused by it but he has spent the whole evening with him and there's something that makes him feel he's not satisfied with the answers he's getting."

The actor added that Roy has a huge decision to make as he ponders over whether to share his knowledge with Liam's widow Maria (Samia Smith), who is now Tony's new love interest.

He asked: "Of course Maria's coming back from Cyprus with the baby and does he tell them? Does Roy tell her that the man she was in love with murdered her husband and the father of her child?"
