Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has claimed that her character Fiz Stape has viewer support in her battles with Sally Webster.
Fans of the ITV1 soap have seen Weatherfield busybody Sally, played by Sally Whittaker, grow furious over Fiz's relationship with new husband John (Graeme Hawley).
Former school teacher John caused chaos for the Websters by starting an affair with feisty Rosie (Helen Flanagan) when she was his pupil two years ago. He went on to leave Weatherfield, but made a shock return last year and abducted his old love interest.
In recent months, Fiz has stood by John while he spends time in prison for his crime. The pair were seen tying the knot in September.
Speaking about Fiz and Sally's feud in an interview with RTÉ, McAlpine explained: "To be honest, I get the best of both worlds because I get to do the shouting, but Fiz always kind of comes out of it looking alright.
"Sally, I kind of feel for her a bit more because she's actually the baddie so the audience are booing her. So I get to say all the horrible lines, but then the audience are cheering for me so I don't think Sally likes it as much as me."
She continued: "But we get on really well and when you're mates with someone it is easier. We're all great mates, there's no real room for not being. But when you are really good mates with someone you can play around with it in the fight scenes. You can really go for it and not be afraid of hurting them too much."
John is finally released from jail in tomorrow's instalment of the programme.
