In addition to the problems at the factory, Anna needs to find a replacement for Kim and Zoe is trying to take the strain at the Health Centre. When a woman collapses in the corner shop, Zoe rushes to her aid. The young girl, Emma has just moved in with her new boyfriend, Andy, an older man who’s widowed with an eleven year old daughter, Ashley. Zoe tries to find out what is causing Emma’s mystery symptoms. When she discovers that Andy’s wife died in complicated circumstances, she starts to wonder whether Emma is at risk – are her symptoms and Andy’s strange behaviour linked in any way?
For Harding, the factory closure is hard to take, especially as Greenwoods manager Robert Ashford displays such glee at the outcome. The men decide to make the best of a bad situation and bring forward the fishing trip, originally planned for the weekend. When Billy finds Harding at home, he invites him to join them. As the men fish, Harding realises the trip has given him a sense of perspective, and as he reels in the only catch of the day everyone cheers. That night, with their renewed sense of vigour, the men eventually have the party they’d planned for David – luring him and Anna to the factory where friends and family are waiting.
Meanwhile, a family of four arrive in Skelthwaite for a break from city life in Sheffield. The visit is a celebration of something, though it is unclear what. Mum Nisha is originally from the town, and enjoys showing her husband Jack and their two children all the places where she grew up. It comes as a complete surprise when outside the Health Centre she bumps into Anna and Zoe who seem to recognise her. Jack confesses that he sent her CV in to apply for a job as a nurse. After being attacked by a patient on a hospital ward in Sheffield perhaps a quieter life in Skelthwaite is just what Nisha and her family need.
