The actor's character Barry O'Hanlon will not be killed off as producers are reportedly leaving the door open for a return to Carrigstown, The Herald reports.
An RTÉ spokesperson said in a statement: "Pat's been there since the beginning of Fair City.
The Irish network added: "He's had some amazing roles and different storylines and this has been a huge one this year.
"His final scenes for the time being are this Sunday - Barry is now locked up in jail."
The award-winning actor is one of Fair City's five original cast members, having played Barry since 1989.
