The Stape returns

Published Sunday, Jul 13 2008, 12:32 BST | By Kris Green | 8 comments
Apologies for my lack of blog entries over the past seven days, but the wanderer has finally returned. I've been away for a week, but normal service has now resumed. Well, at least for the time being anyway!

Here's one of the first pics of John Stape (Graeme Hawley) back in Weatherfield. Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is definitely shocked to see him, while Rosie (Helen Flanagan) is in her element. I've not yet discovered the real reason for John's return, but apparently "it's a biggun". From what I can tell, he'll be quite a slow burner for a while, so we're probably looking at late August before things really start to heat up.

These scenes air on Wednesday, July 23 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.

Meanwhile, over in Walford, Clare Bates (Gemma Bissix) is having a rough time of it in a couple of weeks. She arranges to meet her father, Nigel (Paul Bradley), but surprisingly he doesn't show. Little does she know that he's literally around the corner filming Holby City. Bradley attempts to console her but she's adamant that she has to leave the Square. Clare makes her East-End exit at the beginning of August. It's a real shame, but I think she was still in Clare Devine mode, wasn't she? Who'd like to see her back in the 'Oaks?

These scenes air on Monday, July 21 at 8pm on BBC One.

Meanwhile, Max (Jake Wood) is still on the warpath and is determined to still be a father to his kids. There's a long way to go in this tug of war of love between Max and brother Jack (Scott Maslen). From what I've heard, Jack's mysterious past soon begins to catch up with him. But who'll be victorious in their quest for Tanya's (Jo Joyner) love?

These scenes air on Tuesday, July 22 at 7.30pm on BBC One.

And finally, all credit must go to Bryan Kirkwood and the producers at Hollyoaks for a fantastic bank of episodes this week and last. A very touching tribute to one of the show's most iconic characters. And I was pleased to see that they'd re-mixed the theme tune for the end of the week. I think they learned from Melissa Hurst's death episode where the emotion portrayed in British soap's first anorexic death was ruined by the blaring out of the show theme over the credits.

Hollyoaks is brilliant at the moment but I have to say EastEnders is the best! I loved the Weymouth episodes! What's Honeys exit?

Can't wait to see what happens with Max/Tanya/Jack because I think Tanya deserves a little bit of happiness and from what I can see she is happy with Jack so why Max just can't let them be and just be a father to the kids I do not know because all he would do would be cheat on them and that is not what Tanya needs She needs someone to make her happy and at the moment Jack is doing so.

Totally agree about Hollyoaks over the past couple of weeks - they've given Max a great send off. Also agree about the remixed theme tune and the images at the end of Friday's episode.

I so hope Max gets Tanya back! I feel really sorry for him and think Jack is better with Ronnie. And I love Max and Tanya together!

Have to agree with my sista. Such a pity with Clare - Really want to know Honey's exit!

Why on earth have Coronation Street brought back John? Awful character. EastEnders at least looks good.

I think this fortnight's Hollyoaks have been fantastic, they showed a lot of respect for Matt Littler by the way they handled his exit and the aftermath. I think that Hollyoaks is now the best soap on the box. Keep it coming!!!

Finally some more scoops! Really annoyed that Clare is leaving on such a boring storyline she could have been a great character but she clearly didn't get the proper storylines... I really want to know Honey's exit storyline as she is my favourite character...
