Tragedy in Corrie and a misjudged kiss in 'Oaks

Published Sunday, May 10 2009, 00:02 BST | By Kris Green | 2 comments
To Coronation Street first this week, where tragedy strikes in the Grimshaw household.

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, Paula (Sharon Duce) stops in at Number 11 and announces that she's reported Colin (Edward de Souza) to the police for abusing her when she was a child. Eileen (Sue Cleaver), Julie (Katy Cavanagh) and Jason (Ryan Thomas) are stunned by Paula's actions and beg her to retract the statement.

As all parties involved attempt to come to terms with what could happen next, Paula tries to force her daughter Julie to choose between her or Colin, but Julie refuses to take sides.

Colin's distraught at the prospect of facing a potential stint in prison, but Eileen endeavours to reassure her father that it probably won't come to anything as drastic as that. However, when the police arrive, the worst happens.

The police arrive on the Street to question Colin about Paula's allegations but Eileen refuses to let them in. Under pressure, though, Eileen is forced to back down and when they walk through to the lounge, they're shocked to find Colin dead.

How will his family cope with this turn of events?

These scenes air on Monday, May 18 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.

Over in Hollyoaks, Zoe (Zoë Lister) reluctantly hands in her film project which she created by plagiarising Mike's (Tony Hirst) script. While drowning her sorrows in the SU Bar in an attempt to blank out her betrayal, Zak (Kent Riley) quickly recognises that there's something wrong with her.

Instead of heading out with Michaela (Hollie-Jay Bowes), Zak returns to halls with Zoe and an attempt to figure out what's distressing Zoe. However, Zoe misreads the signals and tries to kiss him. Shocked by her advances, Zak lets her down gently by affirming that he's quite happy with Michaela.

But what will Michaela say when she finds out?

These scenes air on Wednesday, May 20 at 6.30pm on Channel 4.

And finally in Emmerdale, Eric Pollard's (Chris Chittell) health is a cause for concern when he begins experiencing some pains in his chest while lifting some boxes at the factory. Worried for her husband, Val (Charlie Hardwick) suggests that he go to the hospital.

There, Eric's taken for an ECG scan which shows that he probably suffered a mild heart attack. Extremely concerned for her other half, Val tells Eric to pull out of the local elections.

Will he listen?

These scenes air on Friday, May 22 at 7pm on ITV1.

Unfortunately, owing to the manic runup to the British Soap Awards, I'm sans EastEnders pictures this week. Normal service will resume next Sunday.

Check back a little later on in the day for all the gossip from last night's awards!

How are we supposed to know that Paula wasn't a typically precocious teenage girl? And do we have to have Val shoved in front of our noses?
