Updated: Christmas Soap Schedules 2009

Published Tuesday, Dec 1 2009, 17:45 GMT | By Kris Green | 19 comments
Here goes for another year of festive scheduling fun in soapland. Just like last December, this page will be updated as soon as new scheduling information becomes available.

Until you see the words 'all schedules are now final' at the end of the 'updates' section, they're not confirmed.

All clashes are highlighted in RED, while any episodes which are not of their usual length are highlighted in bold font.

Five's Aussie soaps have a different hiatus pattern this year. Neighbours final episode of 2009 goes to air on Friday, December 11, while Home and Away commences its three-week break on Friday, December 18.

Neighbours will return to the schedules on Monday, January 4, while Home and Away makes its comeback a week later on Monday, January 11.

BBC daytime soap Doctors, meanwhile, breaks for Christmas on Friday, December 18 and returns on Monday, January 4.

Ohhhh , Eastenders on, on the Saturday instead of the Wednesday? Great because I tend to miss it at weekends so for this one off , it's going to be brilliant really looking forward to that and the sins of Archie.
Alex, Essex, on December 1st, 2009
Thanks for the final confirmation and I am looking forward to the Archie Special and of course EastEnders Special and Doctor Who too. Your doing a grand job Digital Spy.
Jamie, Midlands, on December 1st, 2009
Ah thats better, no Christmas Day clashes! Is this the final schedule? [Yep - KG]
Charlotte, Midlands, on December 1st, 2009
Can't wait for Eastenders!! nothing else really interests me apart from Doctor who! Christmas and Eastenders! brilliant!! gonna be great this year! lots of the Mitchell's! love it! Ronnie (sam womack) HAS to be the best one! looking forward to her parts :D brilliant actress :D and Dr who's gonna be fab but so gutted on the loss of David Tennant :( i won't be able to move on :( lol.
Lauren, London, on December 1st, 2009
By far EastEnders is the soap to be watching this Christmas...:D
Alex, Essex, on December 1st, 2009
Ah Ok. Thanks for the info KG. I can't wait to see all the cool shows over Christmas and it starts tonight with Delia , but I wonder should they have a Merlin Christmas Special for next year (2010 Christmas)?
Alex, Essex, on December 1st, 2009
I think the bit about Doctor Who times "Ryan" is not correct , as it has been confirmed on another article that Doctor Who is on Christmas Day at 7.30pm to 8.30pm and Eastenders is on at 7.00pm and then again at 8.30pm. [Doctor Who has been moved to 6.30pm as the original article stated that the times were /provisional/ - KG]
Ryan, Castleford, on November 30th, 2009
I'm confused... It was recently announced that Doctor Who was supposed to be shown on Xmas Day at 7.30pm, but the listing here seems to show that EastEnders is on at the same time. Is this just a small typo? [Doctor Who has changed times. It's now on at 6.30pm. The original article about Doctor Who did state that the schedules were /provisional/, not final - KG]
A Walker, on November 28th, 2009
The paper had a different timetable to this :S [It will have done, because the papers only printed extremely early schedules - KG]
Karen, Limerick, on November 27th, 2009
Hi ya Kris, You asked for feedback on the schedules...all I can say is plenty of EE scheduled so has to be a good thing. Trying to be pc but couldn't care less about the other soaps as EE is top class at the moment. Whilst I was one of the "how could they kill dan" hate campaigners (lol) I have to say that had they not gone down that route we would never have been treated to the storylines that have gripped us so much this year e.g. the stacey bipoloar storyline, ronnie's grief storyline and of course the totally non related, but albeit absorbing, lucas murder storyline......I'll be glued to bbc 1 xmas day....as an Irish person Fair City (our national soap) will have to take a back seat :-)
Karen, Limerick, on November 27th, 2009
hey kris, fair play to u for adding EE schedules......I have only watched Corrie lately for the culmination of the Tony storyline. Absolutely nothing else interests me there Kevin and Molly -aaahh !! Hate it !!! EE - can't wait.....Ronnie (Sam Womack) is my absolute favourite actress from the cast and i'm eagerly awaiting the xmas episodes with the Archie storyline....suffice it to say I will be saving the vino until these episodes air xmas day...p.s. hope you are enjoying the day after your magnifique screen performance on the special :-) You've done a tremendous job this year at with your blogs etc.......keep it up for 2010. [Thanks Karen! - KG]
Jackie, Berks, on November 27th, 2009
Do you have the scheduling for Hollyoaks? [Not even an early indication for these yet... - KG]
Ellie, Chester, on November 27th, 2009
What about Hollyoaks? is that still normal times ? x [Not even an early indication for these yet... - KG]
Jamie, Midlands, on November 27th, 2009
Why are the 3 main soaps clashing on Christmas Day? This doesnt usually happen, but I will be watching EastEnders as its the best of them, and recording the other two if this schedule is final. [Don't forget, they're not confirmed yet and are likely to change! - KG]
Lee, London, on November 27th, 2009
Those schedules are awful, particularly for Christmas Day and New Years Day. EastEnders clashing with Corrie and Emmerdale! I only watch EastEnders but it is going to affect ratings for all three, even if 'Enders does normally come out on top. And what about those that want to watch all three?! Sort it out ITV and BBC! [Don't forget, they're not confirmed yet and are likely to change! - KG]
Miss AP Miller, Devon, on November 27th, 2009
It seems that most of the soaps shown during Xmas this year are going to clash. And no doubt there will be doom and gloom in Eastenders.
Kiran, London, on November 27th, 2009
OMG! There's so much clashing between the top 3 soaps EE, Dales and Corrie. Especially on the most important dates Christmas Day and New Years Day! The main one for me is EE which is not to be missed! Wednesdays are most probably going to be boring with jus Dales and Hollyoaks on! [Remember that they're not the final schedules :) - KG]
Lucy, London, on November 27th, 2009
Where the Hell is Eastenders on this...thats the only one i was lookin for =| [They weren't available at the time of going to press with the original lineup - KG]
Karen, Limerick, on November 27th, 2009
hey kris....Where's 'Enders - ???? [They weren't available at the time of going to press with the original lineup - KG]
