Week 37

I love it when you make my job difficult – because that usually means I have a sackfull of quality entries for Caption Corner.

Week 36 was just that – quality.

Not for the first time, it was tough creating a short-list, but I cut the list down to 10 on this occasion.

You will no doubt recall that our EastEnders’ picture showed Little Mo having persuaded Billy to stand in for Alfie at Bobby's party by dressing up as a giant sheepdog.

Paul Nolan, of Wigan, suggested the line beneath the photograph should have read Here we go again with yet another barking mad storyline! while PJE, of London, thought it should be Critics agree that the proposed new Dirty Den-back-from-the-dead plot stretches credibility.

Sarah Blunden, from Bognor Regis, had Rosie shouting: "It's behind you!" and Little Mo replying: “No it’s not panto season yet!???

Actually, Sarah was in good form this week, for another of her offerings made it into the short-list, with Little Mo saying: “Hey Rosie, I think I know where Lord Lucan is hiding!???

One of our overseas readers, Brenda Derouin, from Ottawa, Ontario, in Canada, had me chuckling with: “I walked into the pound... saw that face and couldn't resist...what do ya think, eh????

Week 36's picture
Darren, from Lowton reckoned the toddler could be whispering: “Errr. Mummy, I know you have a sister called Kat, but do we have a dog in the family as well????

In a similar vein, West Midlands contestant Gemma, came up with Poor little Bobby desperately tried to let his mummy know that an ageing teletubbie had been following them for the last five minutes.

Now, as you may recall, I am offering two prizes for this week’s top entries.

Had there been a third, as there was last week, it would have gone to the Motherwell maestro himself, Peter Benassi, who had Little Mo explaining: “We got him free with a five-Litre tin of Dulux!???

Nice one, Peter – that took some beating.

But I think Emma, of Ashfield, just made it to the runner-up prize, with Rosie saying: “'ere, Mo, are you sure the food you've been giving Terence isn't genetically modified????

And top of the shop this week was West Yorkshire entrant, Isabel Paulo, whose dialogue went like this …

Little Mo: “Hi, Rosie, meet my new furry friend all the way from Barking!??? Rosie: “Oh! I thought you said he was from Kenilworth only last week!??? Dog: “Both of you are wrong, actually! I've been born and bred on the Isle Of Dogs!???

Lovely! Well done to you, Isabel. That means that you and Emma collect the prizes on offer this week in the shape of the official BBC book, EastEnders – 20 Years in Albert Square.

The 208-page publication, that was issued this year to coincide with the soap’s 20th anniversary and carries a foreword by EastEnders’ veteran Wendy Richard, will be sent out to you this week.

Once again, I would like to thank our good friends at BBC Worldwide for supplying the handsome prizes.

OK, so onward to Week 37 where our Corrie picture shows Sunita and Dev visiting the sonographer and are suprised to discover that Sunita is expecting twins.

You'll have a little more thinking time on this one as I'm on holiday for a couple of weeks, back at the beginning of September.

See you then.
