Issue #8: Win 'The Bill' DVDs

By
Win The Bill DVDs!

After the Digital Spy’s Neighbours’ weekend, it’s been a very quiet fortnight on planet soap – let’s hope it’s not so peaceful for the next issue…

Emmerdale

Yet another new casting is on the cards for the dales early next week. As yet, the identities of the actor and character are being kept under wraps; but rest assured, I’ll keep you posted.

As you’ll no doubt be aware, Alice received the all-clear from the cancer clinic in the last couple of weeks, but unbeknown to Sam, there’s a surprise in store for him in the coming fortnight as things aren’t all they are cracked up to be …

Casualty

Those Casualty fans among you may be upset to hear that one character will be killed off at Christmas.

The as-yet-unknown individual is to sensationally bow out of the series over the festive period sending shockwaves through the wards of Holby General. How, when and why the mystery character dies? Sorry to tease, but I’m afraid you’ll just have to wait until December to find out…It’s more than my life’s worth!

Despite the death over Christmas, the show must go on and in a special New Year’s Eve episode another unnamed cast member undertakes a special striptease. Unfortunately, the whys and wherefores have not yet been revealed.

It’s a case of Bad Girls meets Casualty at the beginning of next month as Kika Mirylees – who played Julie Johnston - guest appears. The actress is to play the part of Barbara Wells, a woman who is admitted after a serious case of domestic violence.

Also joining the ranks of guest stars is Shobu Kapoor – familiar ex-EastEnder Gita. She will assume the role of the mother of a boy who suffers from a serious racist attack.

Holby

It’s from one Julie to the other, as Victoria Alcock – Larkhall’s Julie Saunders – gears up in mid-November to guest star as Sandra, who, ironically, is hiding from her husband the fact that she has breast cancer, as the Tuesday night medical drama continues.

For those of you who don’t know, Victoria’s Bad Girls’ counterpart suffered a breast cancer scare.

EastEnders

You’ll have probably heard reports this week that Kacey Ainsworth aka Little Mo may be leaving the show earlier than expected.

My EastEnders insiders aren’t confirming anything at this point, but judging by the fact that she’s just signed a new contract, I’d say it’s a safe bet that she’s staying.

The cast and crew of the Walford-based soap are “thrilled to bits??? with their National Television Award which was presented to them on Tuesday night.

After a period of low ratings and their fair share of bad press along with announcements of numerous key characters who have or will quit, their NTA for best soap couldn’t have come at a better time.

An insider told me: “We’re thrilled to bits with our award. We know we’ve had a rough time of late, but now we’re back on the up, and going by Thursday night’s ratings I think we have the Mitchells to thank.???

Coronation Street

Dev and Sunita Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin and Shobna Gulati) are in for a rough couple of weeks next month as the corner shop owner allows the mysterious Amber to stay with them, much to the annoyance of his doting wife.

Sunita, however, engages in a measure of detective work and digs slightly too far - unearthing a shocking revelation…

Neighbours

As part of Neighbours’ 20th year, Ramsay Street fans will witness one of the most dramatic episodes ever seen in the soap’s history.

The plane crash episode does, indeed, leave numerous Ramsay Street residents fighting for their lives in the cold climate of the ocean, but when Susan Kennedy’s body isn’t found, grief sets in for her friends and family.

Fans, however, need not fret – as I can reveal that Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) is not leaving the Aussie soap… Her character is, in fact, found alive and well some weeks later.

Competition Winners...

As you know, In my one-off Neighbours-themed Soap Scoop, I gave you the chance to win a Neighbours board game along with a ‘Neighbours: Defining Moments’ DVD thanks to our special friends at Fremantle.

I asked you: Who plays 20th anniversary returnee Joe Mangel?

The answer, of course, was the fantastically funny Mark Little.

Thanks for all of your entries, but unfortunately, there can only be one winner. And the winner is…. (drum roll please….)

Thomas Perry, from Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Congratulations! Your prizes will be on their way as soon as possible.

… and another competition

For this edition, I’ve two copies of The Bill: Complete Series 2 DVD to give away, courtesy of Network DVD.

This new compilation features some of the best-loved characters from the show, including DI Galloway, Sgt Cryer, Pc Carver, Pc Hollis, WPc Ackland and Det Sgt Roach, who have to contend with child abductions and community violence, alongside the more routine demands of policing.

The programme has always kept pace with the changes and problems encountered by the modern police force and has received much critical acclaim due to its gritty realism.

Broadcast between November, 1985 and February the following year, The Bill Series 2 will appeal to those who like quality British police dramas and anyone who enjoyed Series 1.

To be in with a chance of winning this latest Network DVD release – worth £29.99 and with a running time of around 600 minutes - simply answer the following question:

Which Bill veteran has recently signed a new contract to stay with the series, despite earlier rumours that he/she was about to quit?

UPDATE: This competition has now closed.

This should be easy for regular readers of my ramblings!

Winners will be selected at random from all correct entries received by midnight on the closing date of Tuesday 8th November.

Do remember to include your full name and e-mail address, so that I can contact you if you’re a lucky winner, together with your home town and county.

In accordance with our privacy policy, your information will not be used for any other purpose.

It is a condition of entry that winners agree to their full names and home town being published in this column when the results are announced.
