Week 48

Published Sunday, Mar 5 2006, 16:03 GMT | By Kris Green | 75 comments

Well, the chips were well and truly down for Week 47, with a good number gambling on submitting the best entry.

Although the Emmerdale photograph showing Bob starting to win big at the casino on his stag do was an interesting picture, I once again didn’t think it inspired you as much as others have. It’s quite amazing what stirs you and what doesn’t, but we still had a few laughs, didn’t we?

And we also had the usual groan, DIDN’T WE, Robert Tipping, of Middlesex?

You may agree with me that he should be transported for life after giving us Bob spouting: “We had Leanne and Danny from Coronation Street near the fish van in the last Caption Corner and now we have the chips in Emmerdale.”

Pass me the smelling salts, please…

But Robert did atone a little when he joined in with others on the 007 theme.

His offering was: The cast of Emmerdale audition for leading parts in the new James Bond Film, Casino Royale.

On similar lines, Wigan’s Paul Nolan gave us Bob: “Let's see if the Bond producers prefer our version of Casino Royale” while Sarah Blunden, of Bognor Regis, reckoned Val was probably saying: “Forget Daniel Craig, Bob, they should have cast you as Bond!”

Now, if you felt the characters looked a little wooden in the photograph, you certainly weren’t on your own.

Catherine, from Horsham, for instance, thought The Emmerdale cast took the casino's musical statues tournament very seriously was an appropriate caption, and Motherwell’s Peter Benassi concurred with When the cast of Emmerdale heard that someone from Madame Tussaud's was in their environs, it was not surprising to witness some very obvious posing from everyone.

I don’t know if Claire, of Herts, was having naughty thoughts when she concocted her entry, but I did wonder. I mean, what do you make of The Invisible Man was having the best night he'd had in a long time! (Come one, think about it – take another look at the picture!).

Right, so we’re almost there, but before we enter the frame, I simply have to award this week’s special prize to Stephen Beales, of Hornchurch, for Bob: “YESSSS!!.........Kris has changed the picture!”

OK, Stephen, I do hope you enjoy your weekend abseiling from the Post Office tower!

So, here we are near the finishing line again and galloping into third place it’s David Brand, of Sheffield, with The Emmerdale cast place bets as to who will be leaving in the massive cull!

With just a nose in front, runner-up is B from Barnsley (I do prefer at least a Christian name, everybody). He gave us They are playing charades. Bob says it’s a book. Val says 10 words.

But winning by two lengths is Paul, of Tamworth, Staffs, who reckoned Val was screaming: “Oh my God, I have forgotten to turn the cooker off.”

Yes, I like that Paul. Congratulations, mate.

Well, if you didn’t get a mention this week – or maybe didn’t even enter – how about our next picture?

For Week 48, it’s a scene from Coronation Street which shows the aftermath of Leanne and Janice speeding back to the factory because they are running late. They arrive on the Street travelling much too fast and end up crashing into the Platt's garden wall. Rita and Norris look on...

Think away, my captioneers!
