The longlist nominations for the Inside Soap Awards 2012 have been revealed, and if you're undecided on who to vote for, look no further than Digital Spy's busy soap interviews section for some inspiration!

We've carried out interviews with a number of this year's nominees in recent months to hear the inside scoop on their storylines and life behind the scenes at the soaps.

Here, Digital Spy takes a look back at what a selection of the nominees have been telling us recently…

Tommy and Tina finally kiss
Chris Fountain and Michelle Keegan (Tommy Duckworth and Tina McIntyre, Coronation Street)
Chris is up for the 'Best Actor' and 'Sexiest Male' prizes in this year's longlist, while Michelle has been nominated for 'Best Actress' and 'Sexiest Female'.

At the beginning of the year, Chris told us that he was hoping for a bigger storyline as he reflected on his first year at Corrie, and he later got his wish as the return of Tommy's wayward father Terry led to huge problems for him.

Back in March, meanwhile, Michelle spoke to us about Tina's blossoming relationship with Tommy, tipping the pair for a bright future - but with lots of drama thrown in. This also soon came to pass as confrontations with loan shark Rick Neelan led to tension between them.

On her continued 'Sexiest Female' success, Michelle said at the time: "It's amazing, I don't know what they see at all! I just feel really grateful that I can be in the running for it - it's really flattering."

David Witts as Joey Branning in EastEnders
David Witts (Joey Branning, EastEnders)
David may have just joined soapland, but he's already in the running for an award as he is featured in the 'Sexiest Male' category.

Digital Spy bagged one of the first interviews with David last month, in which he spoke about joining EastEnders and what fans could expect from Joey.

Predicting that the Walford newcomer would break some hearts, David told us: "There are definitely some parallels between him and Derek, which are really interesting to explore. But there's a lot more to him than that, which is why I'm really enjoying portraying him. He's also a bit of a lothario…"

Meanwhile, on the pressures of joining such a high-profile show, he said: "I remember being slightly nervous coming up on the train to Elstree, but as soon as I got here, I was put at ease by how nice everyone was. I had the usual fear of starting a new job, but it was fine as soon as I started."

Ste and Brendan kiss.
Emmett Scanlan and Kieron Richardson (Brendan Brady and Ste Hay, Hollyoaks)
'Stendan' fans will be glad to see Emmett and Kieron both up for the 'Best Actor' prize this year. Additionally, Emmett has been nominated for 'Funniest Male' and 'Best Bad Boy'.

Emmett gave Digital Spy an interesting interview last month, promising massive changes for Brendan ahead of his appearance in Hollyoaks Later this autumn.

Emmett continued: "I'm very pleased to be involved [in Later], as something that I've always wanted is for Brendan Brady to be in a 10pm show where there is no censorship and no emasculating of any scenes.

"If you slap Brendan Brady in a late-night show, knowing the person that he is, then you can forget about censorship - it's going to be him full-on…"

Kieron, meanwhile, spoke to us in May about the Ste and Doug storyline, backing the new romance plot.

He said: "It's an amazing feeling to know that you're coming into work to be really busy and have a storyline. It's great to have something to sink your teeth into. To top it off, working with PJ is incredible. We're friends anyway, so getting to work together as well is amazing."

Gemma Oaten
at the ITV studios
London, England
Gemma Oaten (Rachel Breckle, Emmerdale)
'Best Newcomer' nominee Gemma is another recent Digital Spy interviewee, as she spoke to us last month about Rachel's new storyline with Jai.

Viewers have recently seen Rachel and Jai get passionate at the factory, and it seems that this is just the beginning of a much bigger storyline for the pair.

Gemma teased last month: "I know where the story goes and how it all pans out, and it does turn into something pretty big."

She added: "I'm really, really excited. I've been in Emmerdale for a year now, I've done bits here and there, and I think it's great that they've brought me in so slowly. But now I've got something to really sink my teeth into. I can't say much about it, but I can't wait for it all to unfold."

Elisabeth Dermot Walsh as Zara Carmichael in Doctors
Elisabeth Dermot Walsh (Zara Carmichael, Doctors)
Elisabeth is hugely popular among Doctors fans, so it's no surprise to see her in the running for the 'Best Daytime Star' award.

Zara had a life-changing moment earlier this year as she welcomed the arrival of baby Joe, and Elisabeth told Digital Spy all about filming the challenging scenes.

She said: "It was very daunting, really - especially as we know that so many people watching Doctors are people who are staying at home with their children. It will be fresh in their memories, so I didn't want to do it wrong!"

She added: "I've been preparing for it for a long time, though, as it's what my character has wanted ever since she came into the show.

In real life, Elisabeth has since given birth to a baby son named Bertie, having been pregnant herself when she filmed her on-screen labour scenes!

Darryl 'Brax' Braxton from Home and Away
Steve Peacocke (Brax, Home and Away)
Bad boy Brax has been at the centre of Home and Away's biggest storylines in the past year - most notably the tragic death of his girlfriend Charlie. Steve Peacocke, who plays him, is now up for the 'Best Daytime Star' gong.

After Charlie's exit aired on Channel 5, Digital Spy published an in-depth interview with Steve about the emotional scenes.

Reflecting on the filming day, he explained: "It was pretty full-on stuff, but it all just happened for me in terms of the emotional stuff, and thankfully the cameras were rolling. I don't find it hard to dig up that kind of thing, and I found that I was able to just get sucked up into what was happening around me.

"But as draining as it was shooting all those scenes, we still found time to joke around. Esther [Anderson] and the crew are funny people no matter how deep the stories get!"
