The soap schedules are in...

The Christmas and New Year schedules are finally in and it's essentially a clash-free Christmas again, aside from a 30-minute overlap between Emmerdale and EastEnders on the first day of 2008. Looks like ITV are starting the year as they mean to go on.
It's business as usual to be honest. Although I'm very surprised Corrie isn't putting out an episode on January 1.
In all, we've 5 hours 10 of Hollyoaks, 6 hours of Corrie to tuck into, 6 hours 15 of EastEnders and 6 hours 30 of Emmerdale.
I would, however, like to thank ITV for not pitting Emmerdale against 'Enders on Christmas Day.
For that, ITV: we salute you.
Neighbours, meanwhile, goes on what's said to be its longest ever Xmas break. The last episode of 2007 airs on Friday, December 14 and by the looks of it, the earliest it could return is Monday, January 7. Even that's not confirmed. It wouldn't surprise me if Five pick up Neighbours when the current series ends on screen over here.
Home and Away also takes a week's break between December 24 and 28. It returns on Wednesday, January 2.
Here's the scheduling in all its glory.

Why have we now got over 3 weeks worth of EE crammed into 2 weeks?

The BBC do not owe anything to Neighbours or its makers. It's up to them what they do with their remaining episodes.

The past few years Neighbours has only been off on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. It gives us UK fans a chance to catch up a on a month's episodes while it goes of the air in Aus for three weeks. I think the BBC should stick to this schedule and take it off on just those two days I mentioned.

I hardly think it noble of ITV to change Corrie as Ant said previously. ITV should stick with a schedule that works best for the channel, regardless of any clashes - including Emm and EE. If it does clashes, so what? I'm sure most people have got a recorder of some kind or Sky+. There's no need to make that much of a song and dance about it.

Why is the BBC taking neighbours off for 3 weeks when the likes of Emmerdale and EastEnders are on all over Christmas?

There is a 5 min clash between Corrie & EE on New Year's Eve. Shame on the BBC.

On the whole I'm pleased with the schedule of the soaps during the festive season. It really is annoying when soap clash.

So annoying that EE and Emmerdale will clash on New Year's Day. ITV are really pathetic trying to take some of the EE viewers away.

I see ITV have done the noble thing and moved Corrie on 30 mins on X-Mas day, it was supposed to air at 8 originally

That's 3 hours of Christmas Day wiped out then - though to be fair from what else is on over Christmas giving the soaps a break perhaps wouldn't be wise. Hollyoaks on E4 seems to keep it's regular 7pm slot rather than being rescheduled, as do the 4.30pm repeats.
