The big news of the week came on Tuesday – the revelation that EastEnders teen Jay Brown will be stabbed in a few weeks' time by one of the E20 crew. I finally managed to see the episode the other day and I have to say that it wasn't as gruesome as I'd imagined it would be. There's no screaming, no scuffling – it's all quiet and it happens in about 10 seconds.

Next week sees the final scenes of Coronation Street's Vera Duckworth. Well played to Corrie for keeping how she dies under wraps. There's been nothing in the storylines and even the preview discs have been held back. There's no doubt Corrie will land its largest audience in recent times next Friday as the whole nation gather round their televisions to bid farewell to a Weatherfield legend.

Meanwhile, here are the first pictures of Corrie's Carla having stripped in front of brother-in-law Liam in a hotel room. Carla accidentally-on-purpose books a double instead of two singles in the hope of bedding him. The passion between them is electric but Carla's not prepared when boyfriend Tony turns up at the hotel to surprise her… Will Liam and Carla give in to temptation? Or will Tony throw a spanner in the works?

Back with EastEnders, these are the first snaps of Jack Branning in a passionate embrace with his estranged wife, Selina. Viewers will finally learn the truth about why Jack isn't allowed to see daughter Penny on his own any more when Jack's current girlfriend Ronnie pays a visit to Selina. Jack is forced to admit the truth about what happened and we finally witness his emotional side. The following day, Jack visits his daughter to deliver her birthday present, but Selina turns on her charm and seduces her former lover, enticing him into the bedroom… But will Jack be able to resist his ex's advances for the sake of Ronnie?

And finally Hollyoaks. Valentine's Day wedding bells can be heard in the distance for Jake and Nancy in one of the soap's darkest episodes to date. From what I've heard, it'll be compelling viewing.

What's your take on Walford's stabbing storyline? Is it necessary? Do you think it's justified as it 'reflects real life'? Or is it taking a step too far for soap? How do you think Vera will die?
