Andrew Castle has claimed that he is becoming the victim of his own success on Strictly Come Dancing.
The GMTV host and his professional partner Ola Jordan narrowly escaped elimination from the competition after finding themselves in the bottom two alongside Mark Foster and Hayley Holt at the weekend.
Castle has now suggested that his supporters became complacent after he received his highest ever score from the judges on Saturday night.
Speaking on spinoff show It Takes Two, Castle explained: "It's when you're not [at the bottom] - you make a little bit of an improvement and apparently that's the danger zone."
Jordan agreed: "It is. It's very dangerous to be in the middle. I was ready to be in the bottom two, I was prepared. I knew there was a big chance for us to be in the bottom two."
Castle revealed that performing in the dance-off had been beneficial because he now realises how enjoyable the routines can be.
"I really enjoyed the dance-off and I enjoyed dancing it," he said. "Half-way round, the crowd really supported me in the studio and you think to yourself: 'This could be the last dance'. So you push on and you start smiling. Really, this was the moment in the programme so far that I've enjoyed the most."
