2,000 complain over Sergeant exit

The BBC has received over 2,000 complaints over John Sergeant's decision to quit Strictly Come Dancing.

The political expert announced yesterday that he was leaving the competition due to fears that he could win because of his popularity with viewers.

A BBC spokeswoman confirmed that some 2,094 complaints have been received since the news was announced, compared to 377 complaints about the 64-year-old's success in the contest.

Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood yesterday said the 64-year-old lacked courage for leaving the show, while professional dancer James Jordan called it a "selfish" act.

Meanwhile, head judge Len Goodman said he thought Sergeant was wrong to pull out.
