Online retail giant Amazon entered the tablet war in November 2011 with the release of the Kindle Fire, a tablet computer version of the well known Kindle e-book reader. The mini device (measuring 7") runs a 'forked' version of the Android operating system with inclusion of the Amazon Appstore. The Kindle Fire was aligned with budget tablet market and functions using a dual core CPU with 512mb memory and a lower than average 8GB storage space.
