Sky June widescreen movie policy
Published Monday, Apr 28 2003, 11:51 BST | By Alan Jay
From the 3rd June the Sky Movies multiplex will broadcast a broad range of titles from its existing catalogue, together with new titles where available, in widescreen format. As reported earlier this month this will be launched with a widescreen weekend.
Surveys carried out by Sky show that 57% of Sky Movies subscribers claim to own a widescreen TV.
Sky Movies will now be showing films in widescreen across its entire multiplex (Sky Movies Premier, Max and Cinema), so there will no longer a need for one dedicated screen - hence Sky Movies Premier Widescreen will cease transmission on June 3rd 2003 - it will not be replaced by a 'Sky Movies Premier 5', we are told.
At the same time, Sky Movies Premier 1, 2 and 3 will also introduce Dolby 5.1 capability to many of its films for the first time - giving Sky+ viewers with the appropriate equipment more opportunities than ever before to enhance their movie viewing experience. There are no anticipated DD 5.1 transmissions on Sky Movie Max and Sky Cinema Channels.
