BBC Astra 2A transmissions to cease today?
Published Thursday, May 29 2003, 07:45 BST | By Alan Jay
We understand that later this morning that the BBC will switch off its Astra 2A transponders leaving it exclusively transmitting on Astra 2D.
Comments in our forums this morning suggest that today is a good candidate as it is 7 days since they moved people to the 2D transponder and that the BBC don't like to do things Friday to Monday to ensure people are in the office and have time to deal with any unexpected issues.
This is part of the BBC's planned move to offer its services without Sky's encryption services. The channels will not go FTA at this time as the BBC are awaiting the rulling from the ITC which is expected to be made at the end of June.
The only people this should effect are those well outside the UK. The footprint of Astra 2D is more closely focused onto the UK and those outside of the footprint may need to realigning or change, their dish (or more sensitive LNB).
Though you will find discussions on our satellite technical forum about issues of signal strength in the UK.
