Michael Green has been removed from the race to run ITV this afternoon following a meeting of the Carlton board.
A statement from the board, released to the stock exchange just before 1pm today (Tuesday), said that it would be backing the request from shareholders for an independent chairman of a newly merged ITV.
Green, who has been with Carlton for 20 years, will stay on as chairman of the company for the next few months until the merger comes to fruition.
Carlton shares were up 1.17% to 216.25p on the announcement.
