The managing director of Telewest's consumer division is quitting the company and moving to take up a similar role at BT.
Gavin Patterson will begin his new role as group managing director for BT's consumer and ventures division on January 12, 2004. Part of his responsibilities will include "defending" BT's fixed-line consumer telephony business which has been under attack from cable companies such as Patterson's former employer, Telewest. Patterson said:
"This is fantastic opportunity in a market that is more competitive than ever. I am relishing the prospect of working for such a great brand that is moving swiftly to achieve greater success with its traditional services as well as new-wave areas that help customers get the most from broadband and other exciting technology."
