Andy Brent, the former chief marketing officer of Burger King International, has been appointed group brand marketing director at Sky.
He will join the company on October 1, replacing Sky's former director of communications and marketing Matthew Anderson. Brent's portfolio will not include communications but he will report to chief executive Jeremy Darroch and take a seat on Sky's executive committee.
"The Sky brand is a critical factor in our growth," said Darroch. "Its strength has allowed us to reach out to new customers and to enter new product categories and we see a substantial opportunity for further growth."
Sky's annual marketing budget is believed to be in excess of £100m.
