Virgin adds mobile broadband offering
Published Wednesday, Oct 1 2008, 09:15 BST | By James Welsh
Virgin Media has launched a mobile broadband service using its Virgin Mobile network.
The service, which offers HSDPA download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps, costs £15 per month with a 3GB usage allowance per month; additional gigabytes are priced at £15 each. The product ties customers to an 18 month contract but Virgin Media customers who already have the cable operator's XL broadband service are eligible to receive the first 3 months of mobile broadband service free of charge.
"The launch of our Mobile Broadband product means UK consumers can now get all of their broadband needs from the UK’s leading broadband expert," said Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett. "We’re perfectly placed to offer advice on the best broadband packages available, across a range of gadgets and speeds. Virgin Media already provides the fastest broadband in the UK over our fibre optic network and now customers can enjoy our broadband both at home and when on the move."
