Virgin trials video on demand adverts
Published Monday, Oct 13 2008, 10:12 BST | By James Welsh
Virgin Media will add commercials before and after video on demand programming for a three month trial, it was announced today.
Kelloggs, John Lewis and Royal Mail are among the advertisers who have signed up for the trial, which will take place in north London on VOD content from Virgin Media Television, Channel 4 and Warner TV. The ads will be inserted dynamically by SeaChange's AdPulse system, meaning that the commercials should be relevant to time of day and region and that the number of shown to a particular viewer may be capped.
"Virgin Media has pioneered on demand TV in the UK and we continue to innovate with new content, interactivity and functionality," said Mark Schweitzer, the cable operator's chief commercial officer. "As consumer usage of on demand continues to build, this trial will help us explore the best ways to reach a large and growing audience with engaging and relevant advertising."
