Mobile content provider PlayPhone has launched on terrestrial pay TV operator Top Up TV's lineup.
Digital Spy forum members have reported that PlayPhone Hits has appeared as a Top Up TV Anytime service. It does not appear in the Anytime customisation menu and is therefore downloaded to all Top Up TV Anytime boxes.
PlayPhone said the channel will offer music videos with prompts to buy ringtones and games for mobile devices.
"It’s a totally new idea for a mobile content company to be branching out by launching a television channel," said Martin Bowley, managing director of PlayPhone in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "This is the ideal way for us to extend the PlayPhone brand beyond the world of mobile.
“The aim of this launch is to boost subscriber numbers and generate additional revenue via SMS. The beauty is that we can easily track new traffic, so it is a completely accountable exercise."
