Virgin 'to align' upload speeds

Virgin Media has said it is working to unify upload speeds across its broadband network after complaints from some customers that they were receiving slower uploads than the advertised rate.
Customers on the lowest tier of broadband service from the cable operator are supposed to be able to upload at 256kbps; however, customers in ex-NTL areas served by the Langley and Bromley super headends are currently limited to only 200kbps. Complaints suggested that adverts for the service were misleading because not all customers would be able to receive the touted upload speeds.
"Work to align minor differences in speeds across the NTL and Telewest customer bases is ongoing and should be complete very soon, along with further initiatives to reinforce our position as the UK's leading residential broadband service," the company said in a statement. "We apologise for any confusion and will be updating our website accordingly."
