Sky ends free movies loophole package
Published Tuesday, Mar 30 2004, 15:49 BST | By Neil Wilkes

As first discovered on our forums back in January, the 'G1' package - which offers Sky Sports World and the even-numbered movie channels (formerly branded Sky Movies Max) - was priced at £33, the same price as for the Sky Sports World channels alone. Noticing the mistake, many Sky Sports World subscribers rang Sky and switched to the G1 package, enabling them to view the even-numbered movie channels at no extra cost.
Finally realising the error of their ways, Sky corrected the G1 package cost last Friday (March 26) but, because of a clause in the contract which requires subscription prices to be held for a given period, those who switched to the package before that date will continue to receive it at the dscounted price for six months.
However, as an extra temptation to upgrade when the special offer extends, Sky have also decided to throw in the other movie channels for the duration too. This means that, as well as Sky Movies channels 2, 4, 6 and 8, those who took advantage of Sky's error will also get Sky Movies channels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, the two Sky Cinema channels and the four Disney channels for free until September 25.
Those subscribers concerned will be mailed a letter in the coming months informing them of the situtation.
