New MTV Channels start today

By
The three test channels from MTV will become live today at 1:00pm. As yet the channels have not been added to the SkyGuide EPG, nor have they been assigned their correct channels name yet.

Each channel is broadcasting a test card contain a white background and the three new channel logos. The logos are shown, from left to right - MTV Base, VH-1 Classics and MTV Extra. The test card contains the message "MTV Digital will begin broadcasting at 1:00pm today".

Each channel then has some EPG information on the Search and Scan banner and it's logo somewhere else on screen....

Screen shot of the MTV Base Test Card

MTV Extra - Currently 2506, will become EPG Number 632:
This channels test card is showing the MTV Extra logo in the top right hand side of the screen. At various intervals the logo is shown revolving . The channel's first programme that it will show (according to the Search and Scan Banner) is the "MTV Movie Awards '99".

MTV Base - Currently 2508, will become EPG Number 633:
This channels test card is showing the MTV Base logo in the top left hand side of the screen. We are not sure what this logo is suppose to be doing, however on our Pace Digibox whatever the logo is suppose to be doing is causing the screen display to jump around, flicker and general corrupt the image. The channel's first programme that it will show (according to the Search and Scan Banner) is "Hype Special".

VH-1 Classics - Currently 2509, will become EPG Number 636:
This channels test card is showing the VH-1 Classics logo in the bottom left hand side of the screen. At various intervals the logo is shown spinning. At the time of writing the Search and Scan banner contains no information as to programming for the day.

As a result of these channels joining the MTV/VH-1 lineup some EPG Renumbering will occur. The final EPG Numbering will be:

631 - MTV
632 - MTV Extra
633 - MTV Base

635 - VH-1
636 - VH-1 Classics

638 - M2.

Interestingly Sky/MTV have left gaps in the EPG Numbering this time. Does this suggest that MTV have more channels planed?.
