Virgin "monitoring" Setanta situation

Virgin Media said today that it is watching the situation as beleaguered pay TV broadcaster Setanta appears to head closer to administration.

Setanta, which as Digital Spy reported today is not accepting new customers at this time, is offered free of charge to Virgin Media customers who take the cable operator's top-tier XL television package. It is also available for £12.99 per month to customers taking other tiers of Virgin Media's cable TV service.

"At this time there is no change to our service," said a Virgin Media spokesperson. "We're monitoring the situation with Setanta Sports carefully and will try to ensure our customers continue to receive all available sports coverage."

Virgin declined to speculate about Setanta any further but noted that in general, it would offer pro-rata refunds to any customer taking a paid-for channel that ceased to broadcast.
