ntl unplugs phone service in Dublin

2000 ntl customers in the Dublin area have had their residential telephone service suspended due to a "safety issue."
"ntl Ireland has taken the decision to suspend its domestic direct telephone service in Dublin," the company confirmed today in a statement. "All 2,000 customers are being advised of this decision and we are recommending that each customer contact an alternative telecoms provider with immediate effect. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused as a result of this. The issue does not affect any other service provided by ntl. The company has taken this decision after identifying a safety issue associated with its domestic direct telephone equipment."
No specific information on the "safety issue" has been released by the cable operator.
