Cartoon Network to launch TV loyalty card?

The Cartoon Network could become the first TV channel to launch a loyalty card for its viewers.
The news follows Sky's announcement last month that it would soon be activating the second card slot in its set-top boxes. The slot, which has thusfar remained dormant, will allow broadcasters to launch their own "loyalty cards" to reward viewers for watching their channels.
The Cartoon Network already has a loyalty card scheme of sorts in place. The Truckatoon card, launched in June, gives viewers the chance to win a truck-load of toys in a weekly lottery-style draw. These cards could be swiftly upgraded to work with the new application.
"We've already launched a TV loyalty card in a low tech way with Truckatoon," Richard Kilgarriff, Turner's svp and gm of UK entertainment networks, told C21 Media. "The second slot opens up another avenue to our consumers and that's always going to be interesting to us. Truckatoon cards could carry a magnetic strip with codes and applications that could be used with this."
Other broadcasters said to be interested in the loyalty card idea include QVC and Hallmark.
