Virgin Media has appointed former Disney UK & Ireland boss Cindy Rose as its new executive director of television.

In the new position to come into effect on November 1, Rose will be responsible for leading the cable operator's overall strategy for TV, including the future development of its video-on-demand service.

Rose joins Virgin after 14 years at Disney, where she most recently held the position of EMEA senior vice president & managing director of the Disney Interactive Media Group.

She has also previously acted as managing director UK & Ireland of The Walt Disney Company, and holds legal qualifications both in the US and the UK.

"I am delighted that someone of her considerable calibre is joining in such a key role and I look forward to working with her as we continue to develop our TV services."
