BSkyB is to extend the reach of its digital text service, Sky Text, by making it available on the digital terrestrial television service, Freeview.
Tests for Sky Text are currently underway and the full launch of the service is scheduled for later in December.
Viewers will be able to access Sky Text by pressing the ‘text’ button on their remote control while watching any of the three Sky channels available on Freeview: Sky News, Sky Sports News and Sky Travel.
As with the existing Sky Text service on the digital satellite platform which launched in December 2000, Sky Text will be integrated within the broadcast environment, enabling viewers to continue watching a Sky channel while they check out the wide range of news, sport, finance and weather content.
David Klein, General Manager of Sky Text, said: "Sky Text is already an established and valued source of news and information for millions of satellite viewers. We are pleased to be able to make it available to a wider audience on the digital terrestrial platform."
