BBC claims 5 million DTT homes
Five million homes have now taken up digital terrestrial television, the BBC claimed today.

The corporation said that a surge in sales in the run-up to Christmas was responsible for pushing the uptake figure over the five million mark. The BBC estimates that 190,000 DTT boxes were bought in the two weeks before Christmas, part of a total 1.5m boxes and integrated TVs sold in the three months to December 25.

"It's fantastic news that so many people are now switching on to digital television and the BBC's six extra channels through Freeview and other platforms," said Ilse Howling, the BBC's head of digital marketing and communications. "Free digital television has a huge appeal and shows no signs of slowing down."
