The broadcaster is intending to use the 18-hour slot, which becomes available on April 1, for its upcoming male-targetted channel ITV4.
However, as previously reported, transmission company Crown Castle is now believed to be offering up a second channel space to the highest bidder.
Channel 4 is widely expected to take the contract for the second slot, which it is planning to use for a new gaming channel.
