NTL deploys anti-abuse technologies

NTL has deployed a set of anti-abuse technologies from Openwave systems on its consumer and wholesale internet access services.
The Openwave technologies are designed to block abuse from spam, viruses and malicious messaging. Currently, network edge spam-blocking with an integrated McAfee virus system has been implemented; in the next phase of deployment, another anti-spam filter will be applied to further filter out spam from the inboxes of NTL's customers.
"NTL is working hard to provide the highest possible levels of protection to our customers from spam and viruses," said the company's director of internet, Bill Goodland. "We have a significant programme in place to enhance the service we offer our internet customers and the partnership with Openwave is integral to this effort. The implementation of Edge Gx Anti-Abuse is a good start, preventing some 20 million messages from entering our network each day. But it's only the beginning. We intend to introduce additional levels of customer protection and support over the coming months."
